MNE MEDIA LINKS UP WITH SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE FOR FOOTBALL ON THE NEW GAELIC DIGITAL CHANNEL - 15/07/2008

At the Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Premier League today, the clubs agreed a deal with MNE Media, which means Scottish football fans will be able to see full match coverage of one Clydesdale Bank Premier League match every Saturday night over the next two seasons on the new Gaelic Digital Channel being launched in the Autumn.

The new channel -  a partnership between  the BBC and MG ALBA (formerly the Gaelic Media Service) -  will be available, with no subscription required, via satellite and cable platforms.  MNE Media will select one game from each round of fixtures as the feature match to be shown on an as-live basis around three hours after the final whistle. Funding for the MNE package has come from MG ALBA.

Lex Gold, Executive Chairman of the SPL, said: 'This is an interesting initiative and one that we hope will help make the new Gaelic digital channel attractive to viewers. TV coverage of this kind helps to sustain and build interest in the SPL and our clubs, not only today, but for the next generation of fans. Our broadcasting plans for next season are now almost complete and we're pleased that we are able to provide enhanced coverage of the league.'

Sports Editor for MNE Media, Margot McCuaig, said 'The Gaelic Digital Channel will be the place to tune in for all the very latest Sports action in Scotland. MNE Media will be providing an exciting mix of Live and pre-recorded coverage of top quality competitive events including Football, and we are delighted that this will be headlined by the Scottish Premier League.  We expect coverage of other sports will be announced over the next few weeks, and to cap it all we'll have exclusive interviews with some of the biggest names in the world of sport. Your weekend of Scottish sport viewing will never be the same again.'
