Comadaidh Òir - Series 1
Comadaidh Òir blends a talent contest with a reality TV show by giving new writers the opportunity to have their comedy sketches performed by actors in front of a live audience.
The series takes a team of writers and actors on a six-part tour of key Gaelic-speaking destinations in Scotland on board the 'Comadaidh Òir' Bus, with each visit culminating in a live show. The six writers must come up with new sketches at every stop on the tour, inspired by the locality, for the four-strong troupe of actors to perform. Each week, the theatre audience votes on which writer's sketches they liked the most. Whoever notches up the most wins over the series is crowned comedy king or queen in the final programme.
Cathy MacDonald as The Boss, works alongside the team to offer advice, support and opinion - and who must choose each week which five of the writers get their material performed and who must sit out. The live shows, compered by Morag MacDonald, are complemented by behind the scenes footage on the bus and backstage, capturing the tension and the laughs as the writers hone their skills.
The six featured writers are Duncan MacDonald, Artair Donald, Iain MacDonald, Mairi MacLeod, Gilleasbuig Ferguson and Scott MacDonald. The actors are Kenny MacRae, Carina MacLeod, Alec MacDonald and Ruairidh MacIver. Venues on the tour are Edinburgh and Glasgow, and the islands of Skye, Berneray, Benbecula and Barra.
The programme was funded by Seirbheis nam Meadhanan Gaidhlig.
