Na Rocaidean
In 1957 the 'rocket range' as it became universally known, came to the Uists. Although firing rockets is now a thing of the past and the management and scale of its presence has changed over the intervening 50 years, 'the range' remains a cornerstone of the local economy of the Uists. Over the years its presence has impacted not only on the physical landscape of Benbecula and South Uist but also on the economic, social and cultural development of the islands. This programme looks back at the events of 1957, the controversy surrounding the proposal and the process through which na rocaidean became a part of everyday life in the Uists.
